Kandeel Batool, an Oncology Research Nurse at the Northern Care Aliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA), is preparing to climb Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, to raise vital funds for NorthCare Charity in support of the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre (GJBRC). Her charity chalenge taking place on 26 May aims to boost research into glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive and devastating forms of brain cancer.

Kandeel works closely with the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre at Salford Royal Hospital, supporting clinical trials for patients diagnosed with brain tumours. Every day, she witnesses first-hand the urgent need for improved treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

“Supporting patients with glioblastoma is both inspiring and heartbreaking,” Kandeel said. “Every day, I see the courage of people facing the most aggressive brain cancers. Last year, I went through a personal chalenge that made me realise that if you have your health, you truly have everything. That perspective gave me the courage to take on this climb, something meaningful that reflects the strength I see in my patients.”

Her Yr Wyddfa trek is deeply personal and symbolic.

“I am climbing Snowdon for my patients—past and present. This climb represents resilience, hope and determination. I am incredibly grateful for my health and want to use it to give back by raising funds for the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre to support vital glioblastoma research and help give patients the precious gift of more time,” she said. She also shared a heartfelt message for those she cares for: “For al my patients—you are truly incredible. The strength and courage you show every day inspire me more than you will l ever know.

I am so proud of every battle and chalenge you have faced and continue to face with such courage. One day we wil find a cure. Until then, we wil keep researching, keep pushing forward, and keep fighting alongside each and every one of you.”

Alisha Whitehead, Centre Manager at the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre, praised Kandeel’s dedication: “Over the last year Kandeels role has been to support some of our key neuro-oncology studies, and we are delighted that she has subsequently chosen to raise money to support the centre. She is an incredibly dedicated, kind and caring nurse and we look forward to supporting her on this amazing chalenge - Go Kandeel!”

Supporting lifesaving research, funds raised through Kandeel’s chalenge wil support NorthCare Charity in advancing the work of the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre, pioneering research that aims to improve survival and quality of life for people with brain tumours.
