The Power of Random Acts of Kindness: NorthCare Charity Making a Difference Across the Northern Care Alliance
In the often fast-paced and emotionally demanding world of healthcare, it can be easy to overlook the small moments that make a big difference. But at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, those moments are being spotlighted and celebrated, thanks to the generous support of NorthCare Charity.
On Random Acts of Kindness Day, NorthCare Charity made a powerful impact by recognising and uplifting staff members who go above and beyond—not just for patients, but for one another. These acts might seem small in scale, but their impact reverberates across wards, departments, and even home lives.
Take Sara Thomas, for example. Despite facing her own personal challenges, Sara consistently puts patients first. Her unwavering dedication and quiet resilience inspire everyone around her. She never lets her circumstances affect the quality of care she delivers, and her compassion continues to shine through.
Then there’s Joseph Pullan, whose kindness doesn’t stop at patient care. Joe is a rock for his colleagues, always checking in on their wellbeing—both mentally and physically. His knowledge extends beyond his own responsibilities, making him a dependable and supportive presence across multiple teams.
Jodie Lennon is another shining example. Even while navigating personal struggles, Joide’s compassion never wavers. She regularly stays late to support the ward and steps up during staff shortages without hesitation. Her positivity and commitment are contagious, often boosting the morale of those around her.
The same can be said of Kelly Treen, whose warmth and friendliness are a source of comfort to both patients and staff. Kelly constantly looks out for others, going out of her way to spread kindness. She’s a true team player who always makes those around her feel valued and seen.
And who could forget Karen Caroll, the heart of the Occupational Health department? Karen’s welcoming smile and can-do attitude brighten the day for everyone she encounters. No request is too much trouble, and her helpful nature leaves a lasting impression on staff across the Trust.
Thanks to funding from NorthCare Charity, these exceptional staff members—and many more like them—are being recognised in meaningful ways. Whether through thank-you gifts, wellness packs, or heartfelt shout-outs, these random acts of kindness are a way to say: “You matter, and your kindness does not go unnoticed.”
The Random Acts of Kindness initiative is about more than individual recognition. It’s about creating a culture where kindness is celebrated, where support is second nature, and where staff feel valued not just for what they do, but for who they are.
